The Super Bowl should be a National holiday.
Actually, the Monday after should be a National holiday so that all of us can fully enjoy eating until we can't breath while were probably watching Tom Brady make the greatest comeback ever over our favorite team, without worrying about getting up for work the next morning.
While watching grown men tackle each other for 60 minutes is great and all, there is something else we always look forward to, the Super Bowl halftime show.
Artist like Michael Jackson, Prince, Lady Gaga, The Who, Tom Petty and Madonna have put on amazing, entertaining shows and this year should be no exception.
Justin Timberlake will be taking over this years Super Bowl LII halftime show and take it from someone who has seen him in concert five times, (I may have a problem), JT is going to make you feel like you're at the best party on the planet.
In a recent interview, Timberlake spoke about hitting the halftime stage for the third time and who his halftime show Hall of Fame inductees would be.
Following in Timberlake's steps, we've come up with a list of the top 10 halftime performances thus far. Enjoy.
Honorable Mention: Diana Ross's Super Bowl XXX performance solely because she exited Sun Devil Stadium via helicopter. We strive to be that extra.
10. Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars took the stage at Super Bowl XLVIII and thank goodness he did.
Not only was it probably the first time a lot of people realized "holy crap, Bruno Mars is talented," Super Bowl XLVIII was played between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos where the Seahawks blew out the Broncos 43-8.
So, basically Bruno Mars was the most entertaining thing about that game.
Oh, and he brought out the Red Hot Chili Peppers which is never a bad idea.
9. The Rolling Stones
Mick Jagger and crew entertained the world for 12 minutes during Super Bowl XL. Naturally, it was on a stage shaped as their signature tongue logo. They performed hits like 'Start Me Up,' and '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.'
Any Super Bowl crowd would go wild over seeing legendary Mick Jagger's classic move.
8. Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Diddy, Kid Rock and Nelly
The Super Bowl half time performance that altered the course of television regulation history.
This Super Bowl XXXVIII performance makes the list because when you think Super Bowl halftime shows, there is no more defining moment than 'NippleGate." It was such a defining moment that the Merriam'Webster's Collegiate Dictionary officially added "wardrobe Malfunction" to its lexicon.
There have been a lot of halftime performances, but this is one where we can remember exactly where we were when it happened.
7. Sir Paul McCartney
Well to start, it's Sir Paul McCartney and he should make every list ever created. The NFL decided that they needed a safe (and super famous) act to perform at the first Super Bowl following the aforementioned "Wardrobe Malfunction." He kicked off the Super Bowl XXXIX halftime show with 'Drive My Car,''Live And Let Die,' and finally 'Hey Jude.'
We can't think of an artist who is still living that's more iconic than him.
Plus, nothing will give you goosebumps faster than thousands of people singing along to 'Hey Jude.'
6. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
Remind me to invite Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band to my wedding because as the kids these days would say, 'it was lit.' Bruce and company performed at Super Bowl XLIII and the crowd was jumpin' for 12 straight minutes.
Bruce will make anyone want to step back from the guacamole dip and put our chicken fingers down (his words) and party with The Boss.
He also does this crazy back bend thing at the top of his performance that makes my back hurt just looking at it. Not bad for an old guy.
5. Katy Perry
So, Katy Perry started her Super Bowl XLIX performance atop of the biggest metallic tiger probably ever created. It sorta looked like something that should be on Game Of Thrones, so that gives her a lot of points right of the bat.
Then, for the next 12 minutes Perry took you on a mystical journey with special effects that have never really been used before in Super Bowl Halftime history. Lenny Kravitz, who may be the coolest person on planet earth, joined her on stage followed by the second coolest person on planet earth, Missy Elliott. Perry did about five flawless outfit changes on top of that.
And how can we forget about left shark? We can't.
Even if you're not the biggest Katy Perry fan, she made you feel like you were traveling on Rainbow Road in Mario Kart, and we're very grateful for that.
4. Beyonce
It's Beyonce.
Do we really have to say anything else?
3. Michael Jackson
He's the King of Pop.
He's one of the greatest performers to grace this earth, if not the greatest.
His Super Bowl XXVII performance was the first of it's kind and performers have been trying to replicate it ever since. The performance starts out with MJ on top of each video board then he suddenly appears in the center of the field. He spends about the first minute or so just standing there letting the audience take in the effect of being in the presence of Michael Jackson.
He then moon-walked across the stage and finished off his set surrounded by men, woman and children singing 'Heal The World', a message that was always important to Jackson.
2. Prince
Name something more iconic than the late, great Prince singing 'Purple Rain' on a purple stage with white doves flying around IN THE RAIN.
We'll wait.
1. U2
We think everyone will be able to agree why this Super Bowl XXXVI performance is worthy of the number one spot.
U2's performance took place in February of 2002, only a couple months after our country was flipped upside down during the 9/11 terror attacks.
During their performance, U2 had the names of every single individual who lost their lives on that fateful day showcased behind them. Then at the end, in front of a roaring crowd, lead singer Bono reveled the inside of his jacket lined with the American flag. For a few minutes, the world felt a little bit whole again thanks to U2.
While other halftime shows may have been more entertaining, none of them have had as much meaning as this one.
