LIVE Redskins training camp practice blog–Day 8

RICHMOND--It’s sunny and nice here at Fan Appreciation Day. Not much danger of the iPad overheating issues that came up a couple of days ago.

And, yes, it’s a big crowd.

—We have men in stripes here. They will be giving the annual rules clinic to us tomorrow at 2.

—A Kirk Cousins to Terrelle Pryor TD pass drew some cheers from the crowd. The fact that there were no defenders in the drill did not deter them.

—Pryor dusted off Bashaud Breeland with a double move and caught a deep pass in passing drills. Next play, Josh Norman got a pick. The action is heating up.

—This Josh Doctson grab is just one of many acrobatic catches he's had in Richmond:

—Swearinger knocked down a deep pass intended for Matt Hazel. The safety showed some good make-up speed.

—Perhaps the first drop I have seen from Pryor. He had to reach a bit for Cousins’ pass over the middle but he had two hands on it.

—Perine just popped through a hole up the middle for a decent gain. He’ll be good once he gets the little things figured out.

—Jeremy Spinkle with the catch of the day so far, a lunging grab of a Colt McCoy pass for a gain of about 20. The rookie has yet to show much so far, perhaps a catch like that can get him jump-started.

MORE REDSKINS: IS REED'S INJURY GOING TO LINGER?

—Rob Kelley is back taking some snaps in team drills. It’s not a full load but his neck soreness had kept him out for a few days.

—It’s getting physical out there. Zach Brown tackled Kelley to the ground. That followed a couple of other rather rough stops. A fight could be brewing.

—We’re thinking of Junior Galette as a pass rusher but he just got penetration and stopped Matt Jones in the backfield. If he can do som run stuffing it will be hard to keep him off the field.

—Jamison Crowder is in uniform and pads for the first time in a week. He is not participating in team drills but he appears to be nearly back from his hamstring injury.

—Colt McCoy pumped twice but he couldn’t pull the trigger and ran up the middle. He won’t last long if he does that too often in a game.

—McCoy then threw a nice deep sideline patter to Robert Davis. The ball was perfectly placed into the rookie receiver’s arms.

—Trotting out Galette and Trent Murphy as the second-team edge rushers provides a good test for backup OTs Ty Nsekhe and Vinston Painter. They are getting regular season caliber competition.

—Cousins with some red-zone production there with a bullet to Vernon Davis for an 18-yard touchdown and then a fade to Josh Doctson, who jumped to get the ball away from Quinton Dunbar and then, according to the official on the spot, got both feet in bounds in the end zone.

—Manurice Harris is also in uniform but not doing anything but watching.

—Dunbar got the best of Doctson this time, batting down Cousins’ pass on a quick slant from about the five.

—The third teams on offense and defense are going at it. This is no “wrap and release,” this is real tackling. The series ends when Pete Robertson picks off a Nate Sudfeld pass.

—That’s it for today. Practice cut a bit short to get the players out to greet the fans. See you on Sunday at the normal time, around 3:45.
