DeSean Jackson wore personalized cleats Monday night against the Panthers, and as sure as the sun sets, the NFL fined him. Giants WR Odell Beckham also got fined, and let Jackson know about it too via Instagram.
First, Jackson posted about his cleats.
Then, Beckham replied about his own fine from the NFL.
For as much goodwill as the NFL got a few weeks back for allowing players to wear personalized cleats for charity, this almost swings the pendulum entirely back.
If the NFL wants to shed its stodgy reputation and repair its toxic relationship with players, ending petty fines over footwear would be a good place to start.
