Spencer Dinwiddie mentioned during his introductory press conference how he is the same age (28) as his new teammate Bradley Beal and that it was one of the reasons he signed with Washington. In Beal, he has a star guard whose prime lines up with his. They can accomplish things on the same career timeline.
Beal, though, can opt out of his contract after this upcoming season and because of that has an uncertain future. There was already a flurry of trade rumors involving his name in July and, unless he signs another extension in October, there will be more to come.
Dinwiddie isn't looking too far ahead in that regard. He's excited to play with Beal, no matter how long it lasts.
"I spoke to him and obviously he’s his own man and his decisions are his own," Dinwiddie said. "So, I can’t talk about his plans or what he’s going to do. I think that we have a chance to have a [good thing together]. If that’s not what comes to fruition then it’s not."
"But I think right now we’re both kind of take a little bit of a bet on each other and try to do something special. All we can kind of focus on is the now. If plans change, then they change. We’re here now and we have a really special chance."
Dinwiddie knows Beal well and made a joke about tampering when asked about their conversations before the signing. But suffice it to say, Dinwiddie spoke to Beal before joining the Wizards and appears to expect he will be in Washington at least for one more season.
Beal and Dinwiddie figure to form a solid backcourt combo with Beal having led the East in scoring each of the past two years and Dinwiddie a 20-point scorer his last healthy season in 2019-20. Both are among the top guards in the league at driving to the rim.

"We know what it is," Dinwiddie said. "He can score the ball in a variety of ways and do some special things out there. It’s my job to get out the way when I need to get out the way and try to enhance when I need to enhance."
