Trey Murphy III's meteoric rise up NBA Draft boards ended with him landing in New Orleans.
The Pelicans used the 17th overall pick on Murphy Thursday night, adding him to a core of Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson.
Murphy became one of the better 3-and-D wings in the country last season with Virginia, shooting 50-40-90 in his only year under Tony Bennett while providing valuable defensive versatility.
The Pelicans will likely ask him to bring those same skills to the NBA, as they're in desperate need of shooting and a lift on the defensive end of the floor.
Should he participate in the Las Vegas Summer League with the Pelicans, Virginia fans can catch Murphy in action on August 9 at 12 p.m. against the Bulls.
